The Journal
#ontrendtuesdays are back. I’m so excited to revamp this blog series. In case you aren’t familiar with it, allow me to explain. On Trend Tuesdays is a blog series dedicated to trends happening right now. We talk about everything from wedding trends to the latest trends in fashion. In the world of design you have to pull inspiration from everywhere so I am constantly looking around for trends and thinking of ways to incorporate them into my designs while staying true to my client and in some cases, myself.
Pantone announces their pick annually for what they think is going to be the color of the year based on fashion, politics and the overall tenor of the world. 2015 was the year of Marsala (which I loved, blog here) and this year…drumroll please…they have predicted not one but two colors for 2016, Rose Quartz and Serenity. Rose Quartz is a warm rose tone, Serenity is a light airy blue, together they are supposed to encourage feelings of calm, security and peace.
My initial reaction was, #hatedit. I am not a fan of pastels except for Easter. When I first saw the two colors, I immediately turned my nose up at them. As I began researching them a bit more I realized that I was judging these two colors individually and not as a pair. Once I began thinking of them as a fusion of two colors to make one, I began warming up to them.
I completely see now that Pantone was looking to create a color that represents balance. The warmth of the rose tone is balanced by the coolness of the blue allowing for a very calming effect. I get it, but I can’t say that I love the choice, I just understand it now.
I am still struggling for ways to appreciate the two colors and how I would style them. I love a challenge so I’m really hopeful that one of my 2016 brides decides to incorporate these color(s) into her wedding palette. Until then, I’ll be working on some #weddingwednesday inspiration and brainstorming ways to design a wedding using Rose Quartz and Serenity, so be sure to subscribe to the blog, or follow me on social at @laurenoandco so you don’t miss it!
